The Crafty Writer is a service started by fiction author Fiona Veitch Smith to help teach aspiring and current writers how to master their craft and publish better books that get better results in the market. Have you ever wondered how to write a children's book, and if you have what it takes to create one? For me, it’s this smile. That’s my reason for writing children’s books. Many aspiring (and even accomplished) authors dream of writing a children’s book. Maybe you have an incredible idea that you can’t stop thinking about.

The most widely used typefaces for book body text include Baskerville, Bembo, Garamond, Janson, Palatino, and Times Roman (although this more of a newspaper font). Sans serif fonts may be difficult to read for an entire book If using a sans serif font for body text (Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, etc.), do not use smaller than 8pt. size. You might not be writing a book as dense as Greene’s, but research is an integral part of learning how to write a book. For instance, your story might take place in real-world locations, which means readers will expect accuracy. Develop a system for recording and organizing your research.

Use this leveled book to help early readers develop confidence in their skills as they learn all about the parts of a house. Kids learn all about division vocabulary and strategies with this silly story about a cat crew. Kids fill in the blanks with corresponding adverbs and adjectives in this fun detective story. I'd read books, play games, watch movies in which something would trigger a thought for a new piece to the story -- a situation, character or event that complemented the primary plot very well. I never wrote these ideas down - just collected them in my mind, forgetting many, but holding on to the ones that resonated the most.
